Challenge for the Media – Truth When it Hurts (cont.)

March 31, 2003

IF we are to have a true constitutional government dedicated to the principles of democracy then we must be able to trust our government unequivocally. As I listened to reports of the ongoing war against Iraq during its first days, my greatest concern, second only to my concern for the safety of those in the armed forces engaged in that battle because it was their duty to do so, was for the danger to the Iraqi people. I know from personal experience in 1966 in South Vietnam, as the commander of an “independent warfare operation,” that our government’s leaders, from the President on down through the Chief of Staff of the United States Army and General William C. Westmoreland lied to our armed forces, the South Vietnamese people and all Americans. This was with full knowledge that the daily consequences of those lies and the subterfuge surrounding them resulted in the death and injury of countless men, women and children, military and civilian alike, destruction of their cities and hamlets and capitulation to the enemy. With that as an unforgettable frame of reference, how can I help but wonder if we are now being told the truth? If it was then political expediency to betray the trust of a nation and to abandon their people to the unquestionable conquest by their sworn enemy due to our acquiescence, when that same people trusted this nation and whose every action during the 60s and 70s was predicated on our unending commitment to defending their democracy, what can we now expect and, perhaps more importantly, what can the Iraqis count on?

Going back to what I quoted in Part 22a: In the book, Into The Buzzsaw – Leading Journalists Expose the Myth of a FREE PRESS (©2002 by Prometheus Books), John Kelly, former editor and senior reporter for the National Reporter, a publication specializing in reporting on the CIA, writes that crimes of terrorism, assassination, torture and systematic violations of human rights as being “part and parcel of deliberate CIA policy (the staff report notes that CIA personnel are ‘directed’ to commit crimes).” He points out rather vividly the fact that the CIA itself intimidates even those who many consider courageous, experienced and trustworthy journalists who would stand their ground for the truth (with Peter Jennings a specific example) thereby assuring that their (CIA) evil ways are protected from public exposure and judgment.

This fact is amply supported by experiences I have personally had in dealing with the CIA, FBI and Congress. Those issues related to the request I received in 1964 to “terminate” LCDR William B. Pitzer, the June 1966 assassination plot against Cambodian Crown Prince Sihanouk, the attempt to destroy my Special Forces Camp at An Phu which would have resulted in the death of the members of my A Team (8 Green Berets), the ARVN A Team and approximately 400 South Vietnamese irregulars and finally, the 13 year-long campaign to destroy the credibility and assassinate the character of ARVN Lieutenant General Quang Van Dang, the very man who had rescued all of us in Camp An Phu from the death knell nearly sounded by 1,000 men of the ARVN Regiment sent by the CIA to attack our camp. The reader can find evidence of all these matters within the various parts of theUnconventional Warrior series currently on line in this website.

No government agency or representative in the US Congress, once advised by this author of the serious nature of these potential threats, so much as acknowledged that the information I provided was sufficient to demand, as a minimum, determination of my credibility as the source of such critically important information. Surely, I assumed, once aware of the truth, they would take appropriate action and get back to me. Such was not the case.

I will again remind the reader to go back to Part 6, Blow the ASWAN High Dam of this series and gain an appreciation for the weapon I am discussing based on my personal involvement with it and why it poses a real danger in the hands of terrorists. Further, I remind you that the SADM was listed in JCS Pub 1, an unclassified publication, as a “very low yield, man-portable, atomic demolition munition which is detonated by a timer device.”

On 22 March 2003 @ 2309 hours EST I sent an e-mail to Governor Tom Ridge in the US Department of Homeland Security under the category Security Threats.
In that e-mail I wrote, “Dear Governor Ridge. Please refer to my letters to you dated 28 Oct 01 and 2 Nov 01 regarding the Special Atomic Demolition Munition (SADM) and the information on training I received in the way to destroy a suspension bridge. I have not heard a word from your office.”

Between 25 March 2003 and 31 March 2003, I will send by e-mail or refer to in letter or fax a copy of Part 22a and this part (22b) to the persons and/or offices noted below.
I will ask that each acknowledge receipt of my communication and request that they take action appropriate to their position or office and notify me of that action or purposed inaction as deemed appropriate by them. When Part 22c is posted on this website I will, within the body of that column advise readers of actual response or lack of response by those same parties.
